Robert McKersie

Robert C. McKersie is a family physician who works on the South Side of Chicago. He travels regularly to Nepal where he sees patients and teaches physical diagnostic skills to Nepalese healthcare providers. He lives on the South Side of Chicago with his wife Michele and two children, Robbie and Mia. During the 2006-2007 academic year, Dr. McKersie will be a fellow in Maternal-Child Health at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, IL. He plans to specialize in treating high-risk obstetrics in inner city Chicago as well as internationally. Dr. McKersie has dedicated his medical career to serving the underserved in this country and Nepal. To this end, he serves on two boards: Himalayan HealthCare and Health and Medicine Policy Research Group. He is also very active in Physicians for a National Health Program and regularly speaks for this organization on single payer (national health insurance). In addition, he reviews articles for the Narrative Matters section of Health Affairs. He recently published his memoir entitled In The Foothills Of Medicine, A Young Doctor's Journey From The Inner City Of Chicago To The Mountains of Nepal.
